Wife as Precious
Proverbs 31:10–12 – “An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.”
Did you know that you are precious? Proverbs provides so much insight on what a wife that is more precious than rubies/jewels look like. The qualities/attributes of a precious wife consists of being:
Trustworthy and Devoted
Proverbs 31 states that in a precious wife, she is trustworthy (her husband can trust her). It goes to describe this trust even more, stating that a precious wife goes out of her way to bring her husband good, and not harm. A precious wife should be loyal and devoted to her husband.
Diligent and Hardworking
In Proverbs 31, a precious wife is seen as hardworking. In this picture, the wife is not only seen managing her household, but she is also a working woman. In Proverbs 31:13-14, she manages her business, and in proverbs 31:15, she manages her household. Women are an important part of building up the home and crucial in many ways. Women and wives are precious.
Intelligent and Capable
In Proverbs 31, a precious wife is seen as intelligent. She is wise as she considers things. Proverbs 31:16-18 describes a woman who is smart with her finances, has a good business sense, and is hard-working. It also implies that she is not only present, but also future-orientated.
Generous and Kind
In Proverbs 31, a precious wife “… opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy” (v. 20). A precious wife’s kindness is also displayed in her family, as she shows respect and honor to her husband and family. She is a woman who exhibits grace.
A wife that is as precious as jewels, is precious because of her godly character, not her outward appearence.
Ruth, in the book of Ruth, is seen as a precious wife. Boaz, her husband, even described her as a virtuous woman in Ruth 3:11. To read more about Ruth, read the book of Ruth to hear her story as she is in the lineage of our Lord Jesus Christ.
