It can be so exciting getting ready for the big day, but sometimes we struggle to know where to start. It doesn’t matter if your big day is 2 years away, 10 months away, 3 months away, or 2 weeks away, there is always something that we can do to “glow-up” before the big day.

Affirmations

First and foremost, I want to affirm, what hopefully you already know, that you are beautiful already as you are. But if you struggle with looking in the mirror and end up engaging in negative self-talk, it might be important to start with some positive affirmations. Here are a few that might be helpful for you:

  1. I am loved.
  2. I am beautiful, both inside and out.
  3. I will honor my body.
  4. I will care for myself with self-compassion and patience.
  5. I release perfection and my idea of it.
  6. I trust God’s timing and plan for our wedding.
  7. I release stress and receive God’s peace.
  8. I am becoming the wife God designed me to be.

This workbook below has been beneficial for so many women who need to embrace the idea of self-love. Clink the Button Below:

Why “Glowing-Up”?

Honestly, the idea of “glowing up,” looks different for everyone. To me, it just means bettering myself in ways that I feel like is important to me. When I think of glowing-up I also think of how in the Bible, Esther had to have a whole year’s worth of beauty treatments before she could go before the king. Now is our future husband a king, probably not. But I think we can all agree that we want to look nice on our wedding day.

One thing we could ask ourselves is why? Why do we want to glow-up? We might come up with many different reasons such as “I want to make my husband’s jaw drop,” “I want to feel pretty in my own skin,” “I want to help my self feel better both physically and mentally,” etc. So what is your reasoning? Really check your heart.

What Does “Glowing-up” Look Like?

It Depends. What are your goals? Are they attainable? Realistic with the time you have set for them? Haven’t set goals? Let’s talk about what setting goals should look like.

SMART Goals

When setting goals, it is important to set “SMART” goals. What does SMART goals mean? S.M.A.R.T is actually an acronym. Here is what SMART goals mean:

S – Specific : Your goals must be specific and narrowed down for planning. Ask yourself, what will be accomplished? What actions do you need to take?

M – Measurable : Your goals must have metrics that you are going to use to determine if you have met this goal. This makes the goal more tangible and even may provide milestones.

A – Achievable/Attainable : How are you going to make this attainable? How to accomplish this goal. Are there tools/skills that you need?

R – Relevant : Make sure your goals are in alignment with your overall values and objectives.

T – Timely/Time-bound : It is important to provide a target date to accomplish your goal by. Make sure to have a deadline and examine what all can be accomplished within that time period.

Here are EXAMPLES:

“I will drink 2 liters of water every day for the next 30 days to improve my skin hydration and energy.”

“I will walk 10,000 steps a day for the next 90 days to increase my daily physical activity and meet my fitness goals.”

“I will write down 3 things that I am grateful for every morning for the next 30 days to increase my gratitude.”

I recommend keeping a journal and revisiting your SMART goals often. After you have met the SMART goals, you can continue to add more. Remember to be kind to yourself and if you forget to do something one day, that’s ok, tomorrow is a new day and you can try again tomorrow!

REMEMBER: Focus on 1-2 goals at a time, and adjust it to be more achievable.
